Cosmetics along with the Hair Care Industry is all set to Propel the Demand for Rheology Modifiers

The end user industry is the major driver for the Rheology Modifiers Market to grow. Rheology modifiers derive their applications into major applications like pulp and paper coating industry, paints and coatings, adhesives, cosmetics and many others. Rheology modifiers are one of the key components in cosmetic industry which is used as thickeners and whilst increasing the apparent viscosity will confer a feeling of “quality” to the formulation. While making cosmetic products, rheology modifiers play a vital role in viscosity, appearance and texture, therefore a variety of such ingredients with different characteristics is commercially available. Cosmetics and personal care industry includes personal hygiene and cosmetics products which are used to enhance the beauty and hygiene. Based on quality required, the right rheology characteristics are maintained in the formulation of the cosmetics products.

Rheology Modifiers Market By IndustryARCUnique Hydrophilic Rheology Modifiers are Developed to Play with Textures

Recently, Sensient Cosmetic Technologies developed two specific grades of bi-functional polymers which combine sensorialilty and rheology. These products are composed of sodium polyacrylate monomer which is extremely crosslinked to allow the particles in keeping their shape. Unlike the common rheological agents, these products prevent uncoiling when dispersed in water. Hydrogen bonds and osmotic pressure provide viscosity to the product and their high degree of crosslinking also significantly lessens the electrostatic repulsion. The gels of the product Covacryl® MV do not form a film and however, the particles swollen with water behave independently, allowing a slippery application similar to silicone elastomers, and a powdery velvet finish. Their composition contains sodium polyacrylates that allow formulators to offer a multitude of cosmetic products with innovative textures and special touches. They can be used both in skin care or make-up applications (from 0.1 to 5% in quantity in formula).

Rheology modifiers are constantly gaining importance in the cosmetics and personal care field because they are used to fine tune the sensory qualities of a wide range of liquid based formulations. In skin care they provide required qualities that the end user looks for such as light texture, reduced stickiness and even a richer, creamier formulation. Moreover, several next generation speciality rheology modifiers are also evolving for hair care and styling as well.
